Have you noticed things have gotten extremely unstable and changeable (or even crazy), especially since the start of summer in the northern hemisphere? For at least a partial explanation, look to the shift in the lunar nodes that began in May. The first series of eclipses occurring after the shift marked important events that included a surge in Corona Virus cases and the escalation of the Black Lives Matter movement. Subsequent unrest took hold in the United States.
Let me spell it out for you.
On May 5, 2020, we had one of the most important transits occuring in 2020. The Lunar Nodes moved into new zodiac signs. The North Node moved into Gemini and the South Node moved into Sagittarius. The Nodes will remain in these zodiac signs for 18 months, until January 19, 2022. A complete Nodal Cycle around the Zodiac wheel takes approximately 18-19 years.
The North Node (representing what we need to add to our lives) will be in Gemini, which means you'll need to focus your energies on intellectual growth, practical details, scientific facts and work on improving your communication style, and letting go of your anxieties and trepidations in order to move forward in life.
The last time the Gemini North Node happened was October 14 2001 – April 14 2003 which coincided with 9/11, Afghanistan War and the Iraq War.
Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury, the trickster of the zodiac. Mercury is very changeable (Mercurial) and can make quick and sudden changes. Mercury rules the media and communications and modes of connecting (like the internet) and transportation.
The South Node, entering Sagittarius, indicates that we'll have to let go of the urge to be “right” all the time and concentrate more on the details (rather than forgetting them and looking only at the big picture overview).
The Nodes work together, which is why it's important to consider them both working in tandem to assist the evolutionary growth of humanity’s consciousness. The Lunar Nodes are the only astrological bodies that always move backward in the sky.
The South Node connects you to your past actions and their karmic consequences.
While the North Node represents your destiny and an opportunity to rewrite the script of your life. When the North Node transits the sign of Gemini you have your best chance to make changes and forge ahead into new territory for all things related to Gemini and Third House matters.
What do the Lunar Nodes in Gemini & Sagittarius Mean?
FOCUS: Teaching and Learning New Information.
While the Nodes are transiting Gemini and Sagittarius, which rule the axis of knowledge in the astrological zodiac, the focus worldwide will be on making changes in knowledge based systems such as education, religion, customs and lifestyle choices.
Making Change
Embracing change is not the most comfortable thing for many of us to do. Letting go of the past and the things we’ve held dear is often at odds with our human nature to hold onto the known, tried and true.
In astrology, the South node dredges up your past karmic patterns of action and unproductive habits. This is a time when you have the opportunity to face, resolve, release, and move on from the past. Now you can finish what you started in the past and pay off your karmic debts.
While the North node shows you which areas of life you need to embrace and focus on. These are the areas of life, if embraced, that will propel you forward toward much needed new growth.
As I said, on the zodiac wheel the Gemini/Sagittarius axis is the axis representing knowledge and how you make sense of the world. Gemini and Sagittarius have very different approaches to how they gather knowledge.
Gemini rules the 3rd House which represents your means of communicating and connecting with others, especially in your local neck of the woods. New means of transportation, technological inventions and advancements will be on the horizon and get a boost. Inventiveness and curiosity are highlighted as new territories open up for exploration.
On the other hand, Sagittarius, ruler of the 9th House, has a much broader world view and rules foreign travel, higher education, philosophical ideologies and religion. Conspiracy theories (which seem rampant) fall under the umbrella of the 9th House. Sagittarius represents an international approach that is grounded in beliefs and faith in established institutions. These established ideas and dogma about ways of doing things is set for a major purge and revision.
What Do The Lunar Nodes Mean?
From May 2020 onwards until January 2022, when the Nodes are in Gemini and Sagittarius we need to head toward and embrace Gemini themes while needing to leave behind Sagittarian ones.
We all have Gemini and Sagittarius somewhere in our charts, so we can all apply these principles in particular areas of our lives. Look in your natal chart to see what areas of your personal life are being affected over the next 18 months.
Gemini
Gemini (Mercury) rules your everyday thinking process, how you process and make sense of information. Gemini has a logical, fact-based approach to gathering knowledge. Gemini is very mercurial and in the moment. It pays attention to only what it can see, taste, touch and hear. It does not see the big picture, only the momentary and fleeting details. Because of the fleeting nature of the moment to moment details of life, Gemini can be quite unstable and move on too quickly to a new interest. Gemini can be very childlike in many ways and need to ground the details it picks up along the way from moment to moment. This inability of Gemini to ground information makes for excitement, but is very unstable.
If you have strong Gemini influence in your natal chart, you are prone to be more inquisitive, intellectual in your pursuits, love reading and writing, and enjoy a wide variety of interests.
The Gemini influence makes you more apt to make contact and gather with others in your local community. During the North Node’s transit through the sign of Gemini you’re more likely to interact and socialize with your neighbors, casual acquaintances, coworkers and family members. Congregating and coming together with more people in your local community in some way is more likely during this time.
Sagittarius
Sagittarius (Jupiter), just like Gemini, loves to gather knowledge and information. However, Sag loves the higher, more philosophical and abstract levels of knowledge. It loves theorizing, chasing ideas and codifying beliefs which can become dogma. It imagines and projects the perfect world. Sagittarius has a tendency to be over expanded, can exaggerate and blow things out of proportion with reality. Remember, Jupiter, the ruler of Sag, is the old ruler of Pisces ruled by Neptune, the planet of fantasy and dreams. Pisces is by far the most ungrounded of all of the zodiac signs.
Gemini is concrete and fact based while Sagittarius is abstract and connected with the unseen and invisible realms of life.
Sagittarius rules your beliefs and ideologies which need questioning at this time.
With the South node in Sagittarius, we are moving away from rigid, dogmatic thinking and treasured beliefs.
How the Nodes Work Together to Bring Change
The North Node helps you to do this work of letting go as new vistas beckon you to embrace them. We need to embrace new directions to resolve issues from our past.
Once you embrace the North Node you can unlock and free yourself from the past and perfectly align with life’s plan for you. You might say the North Node is your true north and compass for how to move forward in life. The North Node operates to free you from stagnation and getting stuck in the past.
The solution to your past problems represented by the South Node lies in embracing the opportunities represented by the North Node. Embracing the North Node challenges and opportunities brings rebirth to the South Node area of your life.
These Gemini-Sagittarius connected themes will emerge especially during the window of time when the Nodal Solar and Lunar Eclipses occur.
Eclipse Dates 2020 -2021
- June 20th, 2020 – Solar Eclipse 0° Cancer (North Node 29° Gemini)
- July 4th, 2020 – Lunar Eclipse 13° Capricorn (South Node 28° Sagittarius)
- November 30, 2020 Penumbral Lunar Eclipse 8° Gemini (North Node 19° Gemini). Interestingly, at the time of the Gemini Full Moon Lunar Eclipse the North Node falls on Donald Trump's Sun and North Node. Typically, the full moon is a time of celebration and releasing what has led to this moment. However, when a Full Moon is Eclipsed the Full Moon is Dark and omens a loss and the celebration blocked. During this same time the Sun is smiling on Joe Biden as it conjuncts his natal Sun, Mercury, Mars (now Direct after being Retrograde since September 9th) and Trines Joe's Jupiter in Cancer. Signaling a very auspicious time for Joe Biden. This Full Moon is also a 'true' Blue Moon as it is the fourth Full Moon in the 2020 autumn seasonal cycle.
- December 14, 2020 Total Solar Eclipse - 23° Sagittarius (South Node 19° Sagittarius). This marks the beginning of a new cycle for the United States. Take especial note of what occurs today as it will be a key indicator of what lies ahead in the 2021 New Year.
- May 26, 2021 Total Lunar Eclipse (Super Blood Moon) - 5° Sagittarius (South Node 10° Sagittarius). Visible in much of the Americas, Asia and Australia.
- June 10, 2021 Annular Solar Eclipse - Gemini 19° (North Node 10° Gemini). Notable for the fact that it will pass over the North Pole, it's the only such eclipse occurring in the 21st century.
- November 18-19, 2021 Partial Lunar Eclipse - 27° Taurus (North Node 1° Gemini)
- December 4, 2021 Total Solar Eclipse - 12° Sagittarius (South Node 1° Sagittarius)
Take note of these dates when important events are very likely to happen. Pay attention to what happens in your life around the time of an eclipse as events can occur that play a significant role in your life’s journey.
