The Voice Inside Your Head: Friend or Foe?

How to Tell the Difference. Plus, a simple ritual to shift into your heart's wisdom.

The head can make fear sound like wisdom.

It can dress resistance up as discernment, suspicion up as intelligence, and the need for control up as being responsible.

You may not even recognize it happening.

Something unfamiliar comes along and before you've had a chance to feel it, your mind has already decided what it means. It's unfamiliar and thus unsafe.

The mind does what it thinks you want it to do: protect you.

But protection can become a prison and fear of change can begin making your decisions.

Time of Reimagining Who You Are

There has never been a better time to change your mind, reimagine how you want to live, and create a completely new living environment and community for yourself than during Uranus in Gemini’s seven-year journey. Ruled by Mercury, Gemini invites us to rethink what we believe, how we communicate, and where—and with whom—we live.

The Virgo New Moon and Uranus station retrograde on September 10, 2026, offer an opportunity to review the changes already underway and make course corrections through February 8–20, 2027—a powerful window that ends when Uranus stations direct on February 8 and culminates with the Virgo Lunar Eclipse on February 20, the final eclipse on the Virgo/Pisces axis.

The last time Uranus traveled through Gemini, from 1941 to 1949, the world witnessed the birth of technologies that would redefine everyday life—from computers, radar and the transistor to jet propulsion, microwave cooking and electronic communications. We are now entering another seven-year Uranus-in-Gemini cycle. What we can barely imagine today will become the technology we cannot imagine living without tomorrow. This time, Uranus in Gemini is trine to Pluto in Aquarius which adds tremendous thrust to the changes that will unfold.

How to Know When You're in Your Head

When you feel resistance you are in your head.

Your mind becomes critical and you start asking questions like:

How could this hurt me?
What do they want from me?
Can I trust this person?
Fill in the blank...

Those are useful questions—until they become a reason to close yourself off.

Your head loves to plan, have goals, rules, certainty, and control. Your head likes knowing your destination and how you're going to get there.

But life never promises to stay inside your projections and plans.

When your thinking becomes rigid, spontaneity disappears. You become less willing to explore, experiment, change direction, or discover something you couldn't have anticipated.

And fear begins quietly choosing the boundaries of your life.

How to Know When Your Heart Leads

Your heart follows another way.

It is open.

It is intuitive.

It feels its way through life.

Your heart can know something before your mind can explain it.

Your heart's intelligence is behind those moments of synchronicity and serendipity when the unexpected happens and somehow fits perfectly.

An opportunity appears.

A person crosses your path.

A door opens that you weren't looking for.

Good fortune seems to simply drop into your lap.

The heart operates from trust.

It doesn't need to control every step to move forward.

Divine Partnership - Your Heart Needs Your Mind

Trust without discernment has its dangers.

An open heart can become naïve when:

You can put others above yourself
Look outside yourself for validation
Give away your authority
Believe what you want to be true without evidence

Without discernment, you can become fertile ground for anyone selling an easy answer or promising an easy win.

The answer isn't to become more suspicious.

It's to become more discerning.

Let your heart lead while your mind stays awake and observant. Pay attention to what people do, not just what they say.

Are You Living Your Life—or Someone Else's?

Personal questions to ask yourself:

How much of my life am I actually living from my own inner knowing?

How much of my life is directed by fear, conditioning, other people's opinions, and the need to stay safe?

Am I my own person?

Or have I become so accustomed to looking outside myself that I no longer know what I think, want, feel, or believe?

You may know the answers right away, or you may need to reflect upon them for a time.

What people think of you is none of your business. Other people's opinions are often projections of what they carry within themselves and not about you.

Don't be a dumping ground for other people's projections.

You don't have to take them on.

You can listen without surrendering yourself.

And Then There Is Judgment

Watch your self-judgment.

The more critical you are of yourself, the more readily you will find fault with others.

The ego wants to be better.

Smarter.

More successful.

Flawless.

Perfect.

You do not need self-criticism to make yourself worthy. And you certainly don't need criticism of others to make yourself feel superior.

You can become neutral.

And neutrality gives you something judgment never can:

The ability to see and act from a clear centered space within yourself.

So Where Are You Living?

If you're mostly in your head, you may experience ongoing resistance which feels like stress. Your energetic system can become blocked and poor health can result for  your body, mind, and emotions. The need for control, suspicion, rigidity, and fear of change become chronic states of mind.

If you're mostly in your heart to the extreme, you may recognize your tendency to trust too easily, put others first, seek outside validation, or surrender your authority.

Neither extreme gives you freedom to live in harmony with life.

Freedom is being able to remain open without becoming gullible—and think critically without becoming cynical.

Come Back to Yourself

The next time resistance rises, allow yourself to feel it.

What is underneath it? Fear? Or your heart's knowing?

And when your heart says yes, don't abandon your intelligence. Stay awake. Check the facts. Notice what is actually happening.

Then choose.

Because the point isn't to live in your head or live in your heart.

It's to become the person who can hear both.

Let your heart lead.

Let your mind provide discernment.

And let your own inner knowing be the place from which you live.

Essential Oils for Head and Heart Balance

When you're overly resistant and critical, Black Spruce, Cypress, and Sweet Marjoram are aromatic allies for grounding, softening mental rigidity, and returning to embodied awareness.

When you're overly trusting or too easily influenced, Citrus oils, Lavender and Myrrh can help you return to an intention of self-direction, boundaries, and inner authority.

Shift into Your Heart's Wisdom Ritual

1. Pause.
Stop whatever you are doing. Take one to four slow, conscious breaths.

2. Bring your chosen oil to your nose and inhale.
Place one drop on a cotton ball or aromatherapy inhaler and gently inhale. Enjoy the aroma, let your enjoyment become your point of focus.

3. Place your hand over your heart.
Place your palm over the center of your chest. Take three slow breaths.

Allow yourself to settle into your heart. If you've been experiencing resistance to something that is happening, ask yourself: What does my heart tell me about my resistance?
